Fascism Alert

Indian readers might already be aware, but just to spread the word. Police in Gujarat have arrested an Art student for painting images which the right-wing Hindutva party didn't like. Space Bar has details about protests planned in different parts of India.

Only today I was reading about the history of the so-called "degenerate art" and it all sounds so alarmingly familiar.

This is just sad and depressing. Strangely enough I think a lot of people are ok with crap like this. At a new years party earlier this year I got into an argument with someone who thought that M.F. Husain totally deserved to be served with a warrant. That it was ok that he was basically in exile. And two hours of arguing later they were still as adamant as ever!

yes that is true. many will just say it is only a painting. they don't realize that it is a symptom... the more serious disease is that of intolerance, ignorance and bigotry.

Thanks for putting this up. The title of the post is just apt.

The task of all right-thinkers would be much easier if Modi weren't so alarmingly competent. Clearly, it's too much to ask for a politician who's honest, competent and is not a bigot.
