Somebody likes V. S. Naipaul

For a change Literary Review has some very nice things to say about the Naipaul biography:

This is an excellent biography which does nothing to diminish one's respect for Sir Vidia and leaves one liking him much more than I had expected - a judgement he might himself dismiss as impertinent.

They have his picture on the mast of the website too. I don't know who the third guy is. Any ideas?

Yeah, interesting, esp. compared to the other reviews that A & L Daily linked to. The Times one, for instance... I really want to read the biography, if only to see how it can inspire such differing reactions.

Plus, prurient curiosity about the S & M stuff, needless to say...

The third guy being which one, on the right or the left of Naipaul? Anyway, they're Lords Byron and Nelson.

Steve: Thanks, I could identify Byron. I was looking for the other one...

cat: yes, it depends on your feelings about his work and also the "life vs art problem" in general...
