Winter with Books

Antonia has put up a list of books for winter reading. I thought I will add my own here. I already have four or five books on my current reading pile and it will take up a couple of weeks at least to get through them but anyway here is my list...

Ingeborg Bachmann: Malina
Jaroslav Hasek: The Good Soldier Svejk
Ivan Goncharov: Oblomov
Stendhal: The Life of Henry Brulard
Stendhal: The Charterhouse of Parma (had left it in the middle the last time I picked it up. Will try to find a copy with notes and introduction this time. I was clueless about the historical background of the book.)

Too many novels! I will try to read more philosophy in the next year... and yes history and poetry too. I remember saying the same thing last year too.

oh alok, I see it is jolly well addictive...:) nice selection you have there.
if you leave a comment at the woman's blog (http://readfromatoz.blogspot.com/) who has organized this at the entry of Dec 2 she puts you on the list and you can see all the other crazybooknerds and what books they chose.
Last year I also said oh I will read more, and what happened, nothing....well now there is a challenge

I saw that link on your blog, I will do that...

you know after I started blogging i have been able to spend more time reading. but before that i had to forcibly stop myself from reading random and stupid blogs. it is another addictive habit...

Stendhal: I heard he's much more enjoyable if you read it in French - so I'm kind of put off on him (bad excuse, I know).

I will try to read more books about WWII period - just got a book 'Suite Francaise' written during wartime by a French woman - should be really good.

Oh, and it's time to revisit War & Peace again. I think it's a book designed for winter time. But, having said that, I found my interests shift to photography and I suspect that is where I'll spend most of my time. Sigh...so many addictive interests

Suite Francaise is one of most talked about books of the year. it is on many year-end best books lists too. should be good...

stendhal... I have read that about him too. I have read the red and the black and absolutely loved his voice and style in whatever form it comes in the translation. he is witty, cynical, romantic, charming, nasty all at the same time. he is one author who i really want to meet :)

I have got one Russian on my list. nothing like them for wintry weather.
